In Transition,Taitung Indigenous Cultural and Creative Industries Park, AIR Exhibition, Taitung,
Taiwan,2020
The resident plan was to study one of the spirits of Taiwan Indigenous culture - hand weaving.
I research design, texture, color, composition, and sign of Indigenous weaving, transform to Art
format to have a conversation between Indigenous craftsmanship and Art. The traditional Taiwan
Indigenous woven fabric is made by multi-color yarns, and the slightly hard three-dimensional
weaving accessories use natural materials such as banana fiber and Shell ginger, presenting the
originalcharacteristics of the material and obvious weaving pattern. The soft and hard Indigenous
weaving inspired me to develop flat and three-dimensional works. Incorporating multi-color
yarns and geometrical pattern from Indigenous culture, I arrange colorful yarns in certain
composition like abstract painting, to discuss "painterly" subject in art history. The
three-dimensional work presents purely weaving texture and composition, and constructed
in minimalism sculpture form,to focus on "weaving" and the feeling conveyed by its unique texture.
